Bag Lady
It’s September 12th, 2000 and the legendary Erykah Badu just dropped a gem titled “Bag Lady”. “Bag lady you gone hurt your back, dragging all them bags like that.” If you never knew before today Ms. Badu was not referring to bags in the literal sense. She was referring to your past traumas, your struggles, and or your demons that you’re fighting every day. You see just like the lady that Ms. Badu was referring to, you too have bags. Your back is so tired from carrying all that weight all these years. You keep telling yourself you’re okay but you’re not. You keep wondering why your relationships fail, and it’s because there’s a pattern queen, and it’s you.
We all have baggage. Some have paper bags, others have black trash bags filled with years of bottled up pain and suffering. Queen, you deserve to be free of all that baggage. I know it’s hard to let go. You meet someone, and you tell yourself you’re ready. Things are going great and then those bags start to creep up on you once again. You’re feeling trapped like you’re stuck in a maze, and you keep running into the same dead end. You have the power to get out of this maze of baggage.
Queen, you cannot let your past define you. You most certainly cannot let your past rule your future either. Find peace in forgiveness. Find joy in the struggles. Trust God before you trust any human. Remember it’s okay to say your back is hurting from all that weight. Therapy is cool. Talk to someone. Do what you need to do to free yourself. You’re too beautiful to be tied down queen. Let it go, let it go, let it go, let it go. #LetgoandtrustGod
