Hair Struggles
I wish I was one of those girls that wore their hair one way. You know, the big natural hair girl or the locs, or the “30-inch weave with the long eyelashes.” I do not fit in any of these categories. My hair is natural, however, I’ve been stuck with 4C hair for a decade now. I use to wear weave once upon a time. I was one of the OG’s to this wig life.
Yes, I was wearing wigs back when girls still thought wigs were for grandmas and their favorite Aunty. But now? I can’t imagine putting a wig on. Then there are locs or braids. I could never loc my hair permanently because it just doesn’t fit me. Although I love braids, it doesn’t sit right with me dropping $250 on one style that I’ll just end up taking down in a month. So, here I am going through another one of my midlife hair crisis.
I know some of you all are reading this and thinking well why don’t you just straighten your hair? Queen, I workout 6 days a week. Straightening my hair is also not an option for me. Now do you see why I am struggling? I can’t be the only queen that does not know what to do with their hair. Hair is so universal yet so unique. I love queen India Arie, but I am my hair. If my hair is not together, I do not feel like myself.
I wish I was bold enough to shave it all off and say to hell with it. But me and a baldy probably would not be a good fit either. So, that leaves me with, well nothing. If you thought I was going to give you some deep post about hair today, I apologize. This is more of an open forum to vent my frustrations about my hair. I do not have the answers to your hair struggles queen.
Hell, I don’t have the answers to my own hair struggles. I do know this, when you look in the mirror you should like what you see. So, if you’re currently not feeling your hair or you’re going through a hair crisis like myself, it’s time for a change. Change is good.
