Movies are a great escape from the harsh reality of Covid-19 during the holidays. So, why not rekindle the holiday cheer by watching some movies? Movies like A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Christmas Story have multiple takes on what Christmas is all about. For instance, Charlie Brown is confused about the idea of Christmas, while Ralphie wants an item he cannot get for Christmas.
Here are four of the best movies to watch during the holidays:
A Charlie Brown Christmas
A Charlie Brown Christmas is a Christmas classic based on the comic strip, Peanuts which was written by Charles M. Schulz. This short movie first premiered in 1965, and it still airs to this day.
According to Alec Bojalad from Den of Geek:
“A Charlie Brown Christmas will split its time between Apple TV+ and PBS this holiday season. [. . .] Those who want to watch the special on traditional, terrestrial TV, like the TV gods intended, will get their chance in the middle of December. A Charlie Brown Christmas will air ad-free on PBS and PBS Kids on Sunday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. local time.”
A Christmas Story
A Christmas Story is another holiday classic about the holidays in the 1940’s. Like A Charlie Brown Christmas, the movie is through the perspective of a child. Ralphie, a young boy who attempts to convince his parents, teacher, and Santa that a BB gun is his perfect gift for Christmas. This movie was made in 1983 and is still watched to this day.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, like A Charlie Brown Christmas and A Christmas Story, is a Christmas classic that offers more than holiday cheer. It provides comic relief as the Griswold’s plans for a big family Christmas turn into a disaster. The movie was made in 1989 and is still watched to this day for its hilarious scenes and its semi-realistic take on modern day families during the holidays.
Due to Covid-19 cases rising into the holidays, movies are becoming a last-ditch effort to escape the harsh reality for a few hours a day. Movies like Christmas Vacation and Home Alone offer holiday movies where families can sit back, laugh and forget about the pandemic for a while. Holiday movies are evolving to satisfy the audience’s diverse nature and the realistic and comical take of the holiday spirit.
