One year as a Wife, Mom, Boss
I have been an entrepreneur for a year and one month now. There is a lot that I learned about myself, patience, and most of all balance. Now I am not writing this piece to say, “I got it all under control.” The reality is, I do not have it altogether. The reality is I am still learning. Sometimes, I allow my anxiety to get the best of me and it shows in my house. It shows in my marriage and it shows in my children. I always try to write my blogs with purpose. So, the purpose of this blog is to provide some self-reflection on rules that I need to do and change so that this year as an entrepreneur I can be more successful when it comes to my mental health.
I am also hoping that someone who is reading this can relate to this post. As women, especially those of us who are mothers, if we are not feeling good, it shows in so many other aspects of our lives. For example, when I have a lot going on and I am not handling my stress well, my house looks unorganized. I know that when I am on my sh*t my house looks organized and when it is organized, I think better. I can sleep better at night. I even see my kids moving differently. They are not wild and off schedule.
I decided to put together a list of things that helped me stay above water this past year. I also thought about some things that is going to help me swim better this year. So here are my top 12 things that I am putting in place to help my mental health, and help all aspects of my life.
Wife Mom Boss rule #1 Move in silence and limit who you tell your business to. This is hard for me. I love letting people know, “This is what I have going on and this is the success I have.” I learned the hard way over this past year that everyone is not for you. Fun fact, there are some folks who claim they are for you but they are secretly praying for your downfall. Limit what you tell people so that you can maintain your positive energy, and those that envy you can’t silently put negative energy on your success.
Wife Mom Boss rule #2 Get a bomb planner. Put every single thing in your planner. For example: time at the gym, nail appointments, wax appointments, kids’ appointments, date night or date day with hubby. Hell, even those science projects that you have to help your baby girl with.
Wife Mom Boss rule #3 Girl! If you don’t go get a therapist! You need someone who is willing to listen to you for an hour in a judgment free zone. Therapy does great things for your mental health, and brain functionality.
Wife Mom Boss rule #4 Have lots of sex with your significant other as much as possible. Sex is a great form of exercise, and a stress reliever.
Wife Mom Boss rule #5 Do something nice for yourself at least once a week. You deserve it. The kids are good, your house is okay, and hubby is smiling. So now do you!
Wife Mom Boss rule #6 Be purposeful in all that you do. Choose your meals purposefully, choose your outfit purposefully. Make your next move, purposefully. Your time and energy should be cherished!
Wife Mom Boss rule #7 Keep a bad a** soundtrack in your speakers. Last week, for me was Aquemini. This week, I might take it old-school with Tupac Machiavelli. Next week Jimmy Hendricks, maybe? I always start my Monday’s off with Gucci. Friday mornings is dedicated to Michael Jackson. Music is my coping mechanism and it helps set the tone for my day.
Wife Mom Boss rule #8 NEVER be afraid to ask for help. You should have a support system by now and if you don’t, start creating one immediately.
Wife Mom Boss rule #9 Meditate….Meditate…. Meditate…
Wife Mom Boss rule #10 Set realistic goals for yourself. Set goals for your personal and professional development. Do something nice for yourself when you meet your goals!
Wife Mom Boss rule #11 Be adventurous! You only have one shot. Live your life!
Wife Mom Boss rule #12 and my final rule Wake up every single morning. Look in the mirror and tell yourself and or remind yourself that you are the baddest, mother, shut your mouth! Smile, and take on the day like a BOSS!
Great advice. I’m 6 months into my ft entrepreneurship and some days I just wake up like I CAN’T DO THIS. This poat will help.
