Go Where Your Attention Goes
Editor: Ashley Teil
Have you ever thought about where you are when you are thinking about something? Think, for a moment, to see what you are giving your attention. For instance, think of a loved one who is far away, perhaps on the other side of the globe. Notice what happens – you see that person in the mind’s eye. Because thought travels faster than the speed of light, you are there with your loved
one. You can feel the smile filling your face. Right away, you likely have a very pleasant chat with that person in your mind. Your inner conversation is captivating, and at the same time, you are empowering yourself with the energy of love and producing high-quality chemicals in the body. This is the best thing about thinking.
At other times, negative things take hold of your attention. The downside of negative thinking is that it stops you from getting what you want. During these instances, your focus is on something in the past that didn’t go the way you wanted, or on someone negative who seems to keep you down. While you blame that person from holding you in bondage, keeping you from making
real change, I urge you to reconsider your fears and judgment. Take responsibility for what you are thinking. The moment you give your attention to someone or something negative, you have activated your stress responses. You have switched from being powerful to feeling like a victim who is powerless. You must take back your power if you want to move forward.
This is easy to do. You can take back your power by turning your attention in a different direction. In other words, think differently about the person or thing. Think differently about the situation. First, realize you reacted with fear and perhaps dread, producing toxic chemicals in the body. Surely this is not what you want, because you know this is how you make yourself sick. The important thing to do is forgive yourself for judging both yourself and the other person. Understand this: the moment you react negatively, you are admitting fear and judging for something that is an illusion and appears to exist because you assigned the value of your emotion to it. Through forgiveness, you assign new value. The new value, based on compassion, ignites your love as your true nature.
The mind focuses on the familiar. Because familiarity is the design, we unintentionally hardwire stress and negativity into our DNA daily, which can prevent us from getting the things we desire. When we understand the science behind attention, we empower ourselves to rewire our minds. Rewiring the mind is mental action that charts the course for where we want the mind – and subsequently, the body – to go.
When you decide where you want the mind to go, you empower yourself, so you no longer dwell in negative vibratory states. You can hang out in states filled with love and inspiration. You send the mind to places you want to experience and feel your freedom to explore life even more than you do now. Whatever you intend, you get to enjoy daily. There are no limits for you, other than those you set in motion.
Consider your desires and intentions. These define where you want the body to go. Do you want to be happy? If so, you want the body to go where there is happiness. The moment you think of happiness, you are there in your new future. But you must think happily until you are habitually happy. Persist in thinking thoughts of happiness to create real change. Practice happiness daily.
Make happiness your top priority by devoting yourself to your inner life and turning away from the outer world of effects and circumstances for a few moments every day. Cultivate the practice of contemplating appreciation and love. Choose the ideas and concepts that feel good when you think them, letting these thoughts wrap themselves around you like a cape drapes the body. In this way, you assure real change in your health, relationships, and finances.
Tell the story to yourself about your happiness, just by being happy on the inside. You don’t have to look for something on the outside to make you happy when you learn how to find images working on your behalf on the inside. Keep in mind, the images in your inner world are the substances that form how you are represented in your future physicality. Why is this so? Because you are always imagining your reality. Remember, someone imagined everything you see around you. That’s how things became what they are now.
If you want something that differs from what you are now experiencing, imagine it, and watch how quickly you create real change the body can follow. Your task is to focus your energy on the things you most want in life. With Imagination Education, you will learn how to do this and embark on a journey to make the life changes you deserve.
